LITERACY & NUMERACY INTERVENTION
At Selby PS we offer a variety of student support programs to assist in student learning.
We have a literacy support program aimed at Prep to Grade 2 students which focusses on phonic awareness, reading comprehension and strategies to help when reading. The program uses elements of reading Mastery but also includes strategies form other intervention programs to assist students in the development of their literacy skills.
Numeracy support is provided to students from Prep to Grade 2 in need of assistance in Mathematics and targets specific individual needs across all areas of the mathematics curriculum.
We offer support to English as a Second Language (ESL) students who are learning English as a second or additional language. They are supported to help them settle into schooling and work through the EAL Developmental Continuum to develop their language skills.
For students in Grades 3 to 6 we offer our QuickSmart Numeracy support program. The QuickSmart program is a responsive small-group intervention that aims to develop fluent (Quick) and efficient (Smart) strategy use. QuickSmart supports students so that they are more actively and successfully engaged in the classroom during numeracy sessions.
