Programs - Production
Art, music and sporting programs provide a well rounded education for children's physical and emotional needs.
Every child is involved in the annual school production - the highlight of the year.
In 2012, Selby Primary School students will be performing the Kids At Sea Production! (What a brilliant illustration by Lotus in 5/6B paired with great graphic design work by Adriana Alvarez!) All students will be involved in this fantastic event held in our hall. There will be one matinee performance and two evening sessions just like previous years. All year 6 students have been allocated a role and have had lots of rehearsals. We’ve also had each class rehearse their choreography and singing with our wonderful parent helper Susan Lewis and our Music Teacher Michael Meeking. Utilising our music lessons this term to practice on this performance, allows our school to continue without too much of a disruption beyond these lessons.
Marita and Lisa have already been hard at work on the props, whilst I’m sure Saascha Ryan and her band of sewers will do a wonderful job with the costumes. Please either contact them directly or leave a note at the office so that we can forward on your details if you wish to help them. I have attempted to provide a lot of detail in the notice provided to download (at the bottom of this page) to ensure that all families are aware of the expectations and processes involved with all aspects of the activity and further notes will be distributed closer to the performances.
This year we are utilising the same online ticketing company as we did last year. Tickets are available at http://secure.ticketstar.com.au/selby and are $15 each inclusive of a booking fee. This year profits made from the production will go towards purchasing a class set of ukuleles so that our students are able to utilise this instrument in their music lessons. The matinee session will be taking place on Wednesday 19th September at 1.15pm and then the two evening sessions will be taking place at 7pm on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th September. I am sure you will agree, the price is still very reasonable and compares favourably to other local schools and events.
To purchase tickets please go to the following website, http://secure.ticketstar.com.au/selby. You will then need to set up an account by providing your email address and a password. Once you have completed this step, you simply choose the session and number of tickets that you would like, followed by the actual seats that you would like, and pay for the tickets! An eticket is produced once payment has been made and you need to print this out and take it along with you to the session that you are attending.
We trust that this improvement makes life easier for families and you are welcome to speak with myself, Sandy, Nikki Lewis or Nicky Tate if you would like any support in completing this process.
In order to accommodate all our families, we provide parking in our normal car parks, as well as opening up the lower netball court. We have purchased some additional lights so that parking can be done safely and we will need volunteers to help guide families as they navigate in these areas. Last year we utilised senior students to do this task but would appreciate it if we had some parent volunteers to make it even safer.
We don’t expect all our families to be at all performances. This year we have removed some seating which we don’t believe provides the best viewing opportunities but there are still close to 900 tickets available over the three performances. For the two evening sessions, students are expected to be dropped off well prior to the performances at 7pm so make up and clothing can be arranged, and students are able to be collected from their classrooms as soon as their grade has finished for the evening. We will provide more precise information on times and running order in the coming weeks.
So that is the run down so far. Costume preparation is still in it's early stages. The costume team will do whatever it takes to make every child look and feel great on stage. Please feel free to offer support to your child's classroom teacher. We trust that these details provide a good overview of this exciting event. Further details will be distributed in the coming weeks.
